Accessing water in a rural area can be challenging, we often rely on natural sources for fire suppression.  Fire departments routinely conduct mutual aid, tanker shuttle operation drills to practice drafting from those static sources and setting up shuttles to run through managing water flow. Shuttling water involves tankers ..they travel to fill and return to the scene to dump again. It’s a constant run between scene and water source using two primary types of apparatus: pumpers and tankers. In a nutshell one tanker is positioned at the water source and is used to feed the tankers at the fill site. The second pumper is located at or near the emergency scene and used to draft water from portable water sources. Depending on the location and the scenario the pumper may supply attack lines.
