The Healing Trail-Endometriosis Post Menopause

There are moments in life that change everything.

For me, that moment didn't begin with a diagnosis. It began with my body refusing to stay silent. For years, I pushed through stress and the long hours working in Corporate Construction; it's a high-pressure industry where every day brings tight deadlines, unexpected problems, and constant demands. As Civil Engineer by degree, my career led me to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The job wasn't simply about moving the needle—it was about changing hearts, challenging long-held beliefs, and helping people see one another through a different lens. I was thriving. Passionate. Committed. Then, the roadblock in a long successful career; a difficult workplace. The mental damage alone was enough, now there was more. Like, so many Gen X women, I wore resilience like a badge of honor. I showed up. I kept going. I convinced myself I could handle one another day. Until my body decided it had carried enough.

Everyone says, "Relax, lots of women haven endometriosis." Yes, that is true however, after menopause, it's a little different. Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent condition, but it does not rely solely on ovarian estrogen. After menopause, the ovaries stop producing significant amounts of estrogen, yet the body continues to produce small amounts through fat tissue. Researchers have also found several connections between chronic stress, elevated cortisol and endometriosis-it disrupts the immune system and increases inflammation.

When the symptoms of endometriosis began after menopause, I was forced to stop and listen. This was my wake-up call. Was it time to go back to my Engineering roots? Yes, and couldn't be happier! My body was asking me to pay attention. To slow down. To advocate for myself. To seek answers instead of simply enduring. That journey has not been easy. It has included uncertainty, fear (cancer), doctor's appointments, hospital visits, sonograms, pending biopsies, difficult conversations, and the possibility of facing something even more serious. But it has also led me somewhere unexpected. It led me back to myself.

This series is about that journey. My journey and connecting with other women that are struggling and want to share their story.

It's about learning how anti-inflammatory foods can nourish my body. It's about discovering the healing power of movement instead of punishment through exercise. As a newly certified Sylvotherapist (forest therapy), it's about finding peace on walking trails, in the garden, spending time with God's creatures, and beneath the trees. It's about embracing fresh air, sunlight, and slowing down long enough to remember that healing isn't just physical— it's emotional and spiritual, too. Most importantly, it's about sharing the journey honestly. The victories. The setbacks. The questions. The hope.

This is one of the main reasons why we started the Gen X Sisterhood. Honest, open conversations. Supporting one another, empowerment and encouragement.

If you're a Gen X woman navigating menopause, endometriosis, chronic inflammation, or simply trying to reclaim your health after years of putting everyone else first, I hope you'll pull up a chair—or lace up your shoes—and join me.

Welcome to The Healing Trail.
